Dogs Trust releases heartbreaking advert for ‘A dog is for life’ Christmas campaign

Dogs Trust has released a heart-wrenching Christmas advert sure to pull at your heartstrings.

The charity launched its ‘A dog is for life, not just for Christmas’ campaign after an ‘alarming’ number of people wanting to surrender their pets this year.

Just after Christmas in 2018, the charity received 370 requests from people looking to re-home their dogs.

Dogs Trust has also revealed that the charity gets a call from someone wanting to give up their dog every six minutes.

The famous slogan was created by former Dogs trust CEO and Trustee, Clarissa Baldwin in 1978.

Now the charity is using the slogan to urge people to ‘paws’ and not adopt or buy a dog before considering the dedication animals need from their owners.

In the harrowing advert, a puppet dog made of cork happily plays with its owners on Christmas day.

The following day, the owner pushes aside the puppet dog, which then becomes a real dog who has been dumped in a bin with wrapping paper and other rubbish.

The heartbreaking ad then ends with the dog being rescued by members of Dogs Trust.

The charity hopes that the advert will serve as a reminder of the lifelong commitment required to take on a new pet.
