Dogs Trust launch Valentine appeal for pup with heart-shaped marking

A deaf dog with love on his side is looking for a home this Valentine’s.

At less than one year old, rescue Lurcher puppy Freddo has some unique markings on his coat, including his very own love heart; and canine carers are hoping this is a sign that he will find an adoring new owner in time for Valentine’s Day.

A firm favourite amongst staff at The Dogs Trust rehoming centre in Uddingston, Freddo is fondly known as the dog who literally wears his heart on his sleeve. He adores being around people and his whole face and body light up at the chance to play or give out cuddles.

Sandra Lawton, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Glasgow, said:

“This beautiful boy is in need of a special home with an owner whose heart is as big as the one on his coat! We would also ask that they be patient with him and are willing to continue his ongoing puppy training. He has spent much of his life in kennels and although this certainly hasn’t fazed him, we’d love nothing more than to see him get the opportunity to find his special someone.

“Sometimes potential owners can be put off by dogs with hearing impairments, but they shouldn’t be. When training deaf dogs, we use the same hand signals used to guide hearing dogs.

“The main difference is we have to be a bit more inventive when it comes to gaining their attention but by using rewards-based methods, it is perfectly possible to train a deaf dog to respond to numerous commands.”

Freddo is a wonderful pup who will make a super addition to the right home.

He is full of energy and would love to find an active family; he could also live with children over the age of 14.

While settling in Freddo would need someone to be around most of the day to keep him company, as he likes to soak up as much love as he can.

If you think Freddo could be your special Valentine and you are willing to spend some time at the rehoming centre building up a strong bond with him, please get in touch with the team at Dogs Trust on 0141 465 0839 or visit www.dogstrust.org.uk/our-centres/glasgow
