Dogs stabbed and blood shed in Charnwood street attack

The Canberra Hospital.

A bedside court hearing at Canberra Hospital was held on Saturday morning for a man treated for dog bite wounds after a bloody and noisy fracas in Charnwood on Friday afternoon.

The injured 45-year-old Gungahlin man was charged with a range of offences including threat to kill, common assault, possess offensive weapon with intent, and animal cruelty after he allegedly stabbed two pet dogs during the fight.

The magistrate was told the alleged offender had a verbal altercation with another man in Small Place, Charnwood, produced a knife and threatened to kill the other man.

The alleged offender then got involved in a fight with a woman outside her Charnwood home nearby, and assaulted and threatened to kill the woman.

Police allege that during this loud and furious altercation, the offender used his knife to stab two dogs, but also sustained bite wounds from the woman's dogs.

The offender then fled the scene.

Domestic Animal Services provided treatment for the injured dogs.

The alleged offender was subsequently arrested some two hours later at a home in Gungahlin.
