Story: George and Mildred were brought in to the centre from the pound. Both came in a very stressed state, having been left to wander the streets for weeks, living off rubbish and sleeping rough. Left to fend for themselves for so long and only having each other to depend on, the bond between the two dogs was extremely strong. Both of their coats were in a really bad state, full of fleas, dirty and lacking luster. Their teeth and gums were also terrible, due to a poor diet. Neither had had much training and would run off at every opportunity. Within the first couple of weeks, their coats began to regain their shine, and the biggest improvement was their teeth Photograph: PR

Rescue Centre: HULA (Home for Unwanted and Lost Animals)
Location: Milton Keynes
Story: When Misty first arrived at HULA she was underweight and her coat was in poor condition. Because of the neglect she experienced, Misty had aggression issues with other dogs and was nervous around new people. This was Misty’s second stay at HULA – she was returned to the charity because sadly the scale of her issues had not come to light until she reached her new home. Since Misty’s second stay, she has benefited from regular training sessions at Crossroad kennels. Now Misty is transformed. Happy and confident, she’s gained weight, her coat is shining and she is now able to socialise with other dogs. Misty is continuing to come on in leaps and bounds and will make a fantastic pet for loving owners Photograph: Bridget Davey/PR
