Dogs fall ill due to 'poisoned tennis balls' planted in Pentlands

Tennis balls laced with poison have been causing dogs to fall ill after walks in the Pentlands.

Police in Edinburgh say they've been made aware of social media posts which claim pets have become sick after playing with poisoned toys near the Harlaw Reservoir.

This comes less than two weeks after police issued a warning about poisoned tennis balls at Hermitage of Braid and Braid Hill in Edinburgh.

The Pentlands have been incredibly busy with walkers in recent days, and police have even been conducting additional patrols in a bid to combat bad and dangerous parking on roads in the area.

However dog walkers using the area are now also being warned to remain vigilant, particularly around Harlaw.

Edinburgh Police said: "We've been made aware of social media posts regarding poisoned tennis balls being left around the Harlaw Reservoir area resulting in dogs becoming ill.

"If you have any information regarding this or if you dog has been affected, please call 101 quoting incident 1012 of 29/12/20."

Edinburgh Live reported earlier on Wednesday that police were warning people not to park dangerously near the Pentlands, and particularly around the A702 at Flotterstone.

They said extra patrols would be carried out in response to "safety and congestion concerns".

The Flotterstone car park in Midlothian was full on Wednesday with the Castlelaw car park inaccessible due to ice, and people urged not to attempt visiting the area.
