Scots are heading to the polls today to elect more than 1,200 councillors to council chambers across the country.
Polling stations in Scotland for the council election opened at 7am, while booths also opened this morning for votes in England and Wales while Northern Ireland is voting for its Assembly.
Due to reporting restrictions in the United Kingdom when the polls are open from 7am to 10pm the media is forced to report on non-political stories.

It has now become very common to take your pooch to vote and tweet a picture of them outside the polling station.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson kicked it off this morning when he headed to the polling station in London with his dog Dilyn at 7.45am.
