Doggy mum and daughter are looking for a forever home together

A mum and daughter rescue dog duo are looking for their forever homes - but these doggos are more just family, because they’re best friends too.

Dogs Trust Glasgow has issued an appeal to help find a new family for Gem and Nell in time for International Friendship Day (July 30) - but, understandably, they’re looking to keep them together.

That’s because mum Gem, 13, dotes on her daughter Nell, 10 - from sharing the same bed to cleaning Nell’s face when they settle down for the night.

In turn, Nell is a shy dog who draws confidence from Gem - so she’ll need Mum by her side when she meets any new family.

Both border collies are currently spending time in a foster home on the Dog’s Trust Home From Home programme - and it’s given Nell a confidence boost, making her better suited to being around other dogs and new people too.

Sandra Lawton, rehoming centre manager at Dogs Trust Glasgow, said: “This adorable pair are a little bit older but don’t let that fool you, they still have their wits about them. We would love to find them a new home together so they can continue to be part of each other’s life as they reach retirement age.

“We’d love to hear from potential dog owners who agree that a dog is for life, or in this case two dogs. Ideally, they would have previous experience with the Collie breed and can provide Gem and Nell with a fun home where they will get lots of mental and physical stimulation.”

Sandra points out that two dogs are better than one for multiple reasons - not least that they keep each other company when they have to be left on their own.

She added: “We really hope they will find a new home together as they rely on each other, have such a deep bond; and would cope so much better adjusting to life as part of a new family if they each had their best friend by their side. Their unique personalities work so well as a duo, and we believe that type of companionship should be cherished as much as possible because, everyone needs a friend.”
