A self-appointed 'pet detective' who is tired of dog walkers leaving their animals' droppings outside his house has taken steps to catch them in the act.
Steve Tamblyn of Lower Mitcham in Adelaide's inner south recently installed a security camera on his property, facing towards the street.
It did not take long for him to snare evidence, capturing footage of a golden retriever squatting on the grassy strip next to his driveway.
The video shows the pooch's owner waiting before walking off.
Mr Tamblyn took a screenshot of the incident, which he has now laminated and staked into the ground above the pile of poo in an attempt to flush out the offender.
"There's been many cases before of deposits being left on the verge," he said.
"I've recently installed security cameras and came out on Monday morning to a rather large 'steaming stanley' on the verge and thought 'right, that's enough. I'm going to take action here'."
Mr Tamblyn also posted footage of the episode on Facebook, where it has generated a storm of responses.
"[I] took a screenshot and put a picture right by the number left there, so I thought if she walks past and sees that there's a good chance she'll clean it up," he said.
While that has not happened yet, he is at least hoping to send a warning to others.
"I've been checking the surveillance each morning to see whether she has," he said.
"There have been a lot of dog walkers though walk past and notice it so I think this might be the last deposit left on my verge."
Mr Tamblyn was quick to point out it is not dogs he has a problem with, just some of their owners.
"I'm a dog lover, I have my own dog, and I'm frequently out walking the streets of Lower Mitcham," he said.
"I'm sick of dodging parcels left on the footpath by lazy dog owners so I thought I'll take some action here and help clean up the footpaths."
