Dogged defending! Dog makes unbelievable goal-line save in Argentina third division game

Dogged defending: The hound made a brilliant save his team already 3-0 down. (Picture: YouTube)

Dogs are often described as a man's best friend, but this particular stray went one step further when it prevented a certain goal in an Argentinian third-tier game.

Juventud Unida were cruising 3-0 against Defensores de Belgrano midway through the second half when the dog decided to get involved in the action.

Belgrano goalkeeper Brian Oliveira was sizing up a kick upfield when one of the Juventud players blocked the ball, leaving him way out of his goal and facing an embarrassing scenario.

With the goal at his mercy, it looked inevitable that Juventud player would find the net without some form of miracle.

But that miracle soon arrived when out of nowhere, an unattached dog sprinted across the box and pulled off a save David De Gea would be proud of.

The canine nodded the ball away from danger before continuing his run towards the other side of the pitch, knowing it was a job well done.

While the unnamed dog saved a certain goal, its heroics couldn't motivate Belgrano to turn the result around and the contest finished 3-0.

Quite where the dog had come from or whether it was aware of what it had accomplished remains unknown, but it was just one of the many tales where a dog has made its way onto the pitch.

In South America, there are said to be millions of stray dogs and therefore it's quite common for dogs to make their way into the field of play, given the open design of the stadiums.
