Doga: 270 dogs set world record for largest dog yoga class ever

270 dogs and their flexible owners have stretched their way to a new world yoga record in Hong Kong.

The dogs and their owners took part in a 30 minute yoga class for dogs (or ‘doga’) on Saturday. Far from your conventional yoga class, the participants massaged and stretched their furry friends in a series of relaxing poses, only being interrupted by a few barks.

“I feel really, really good. It’s kind of a really close relationship with my dog. I like it”, said Susan Chan, a participant who joined the event with her dog Sunshine.

For Suzette Ackerman, the teacher who led the class, ‘doga’ classes are a good way to release daily stress while enjoying a pet’s company.

"I think it's important. I think today they had fun. And people in Hong Kong are very busy with work. Like 24/7 working. A lot of them have pets but usually it's the helpers that take the dogs out for walks," said Ackerman.

The record-breaking attempt has yet to be confirmed by the Guinness World Records, but organisers were confident the record had been broken.

The previous record for largest 'doga' class was set in San Diego on 25 January 2015 with an attendance of 265 people and their pets.
