Dog with 'fight wounds' and head trauma found in Scots country park

A dog with potential fight wounds and head trauma has been found in a Scots country park.

The lurcher was discovered by a member of the public in Dalkeith Country Park on Saturday, August 28.

The SSPCA were alerted and took him to a local veterinary centre for treatment to his injuries.

Inspector Tracy Dow said: “The lurcher was found with injuries to his neck which are similar to those inflicted in a dog fight.

“His eyes were also bloodshot which suggests trauma to the head."

The dog, whose name is unknown, is microchipped but it is believed that the contact details may be out-of-date.

Dow added: “He is understandably nervous but we are providing him with the care he needs in one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres."

The animal welfare charity are now hoping to trace the owners of the dog who is now in their care.

Anyone who recognises the lurcher is asked to call their animal helpline on 03000 999 999 where calls can be treated confidentially.
