Dog with epilepsy and in need of vital medication is missing after running off in Chorlton Meadows

The owners of a missing dog have launched a desperate appeal for information as she has now missed vital medication.

Myrtle, a seven-year-old tri-coloured beagle, has been missing since Monday (April 20) after wandering off in Chorlton Meadows, near to the River Mersey, at approximately 6.30pm.

Myrtle has epilepsy and has missed three days of crucial medication, meaning that she is now in a very vulnerable state.

“She has developed epilepsy over the last year or so and is on medication twice a day to stop fits,” said owner Abigail McKessy.

“She has now missed six doses so it is very likely that she could have already had a fit.

“Her medication was recently upped and this had an effect on her and made her appear more disorientated.”

Myrtle is mostly black on her back and she has a shaved rectangular-patch on her left side after recently having a biopsy.

She is also microchipped and spayed, and was wearing a collar with contact details on.

“She went missing around 6pm up on the river Mersey on Monday,” Abigail added.

“My parents were out walking her. She often can run off but is normally found within a couple of hours or will return home.

“There has been one possible sighting on Tuesday on the meadows by the bowling green but nothing since.”

Abigail said they had been advised not to shout her name if found, as she might have gone into survival mode and that might result in her staying hidden.

Instead, they are being encouraged to offer words of encouragement.

Abigail said that Myrtle had been in their lives since she was young.

“We have had her all her life as we also had her mum, Revel.

“She was the runt of the litter and not expected to make it, she had to be hand reared and fed every two hours.”

Her owners added that this means she is often mistaken for a puppy due to her smaller size.

Anyone with information is advised to contact 07954 141 452 or 07505 292 597 as soon as possible.

If found, she should also be reported to the Council Dog Warden, as required by law.
