Dog who always looks cross-legged after being hit by car struggles to find home

An adorable dog who always looks cross-legged is struggling to find a permanent home after tragically being hit by a car.

Mixed breed Nina was rescued by Wild At Heart Foundation (WAHF) from the streets of Lebanon, where she was found paralysed from the waist down.

The three-year-old stray has adapted well to life with two working legs and rescuers say her "courage and happy personality is so contagious, it touches everyone she meets".

Jennifer Musson at WAHF told The Mirror : "Nina is such a special girl and she hasn't let her disability hinder her wonderful spirit.

"As she needs extensive care and support, we worry it might be hard to find her a home."

Affectionate Nina is currently living in Lincolnshire while she struggles to find a new family in the UK.

Staff say her favourite past time is "watching the ways of the world" through the window in the living room.

When she's not laying in the sun or cuddling up with humans, she loves whizzing around in her cart and seeking out birds in the garden.

Like many rescue dogs, Nina can get somewhat confused by toys, but has found friendship in a squeaky duck which has been labelled her best friend.

She has been described by rescuers as "inquisitive by nature" as she enjoys licky mats, kongs and figuring out new puzzles.

Nina had learnt 'lay down', 'stay', 'wait' and 'leave' since arriving in the UK and is highly motivated by food, so training comes easy to her.

The former street dog is still getting used to some new things and can be startled by loud traffic and noisy household appliances.

She can also be unsettled in the car but soon relaxes on journeys.

WAHF will not be considering first time dog owners and are looking for an adopter who lives in a semi-rural location and is at home most of the day.

Nina would love a big, supportive family and has successfully lived with another dog and a cat, and is also great with the children she meets.

She can be just as fast and boisterous as any other dogs and keeps up with them during play time.

As Nina is paralysed from the waist down, applicants need to be aware and dedicated to her ongoing needs, as well as committed to the costs of her veterinary care.

Her bladder needs to be expressed four times a day and she requires daily cleaning and care of her skin and hind legs.

The adoption fee for Nina is £295. If you would like to adopt her, please visit Nina's profile on Wild At Heart Foundation.
