Dog walkers warned to be vigilant after treats laced with pills found in Edinburgh park

Scots dog walkers are being urged to remain vigilant after treats laced with pills were found in an Edinburgh park.

The dangerous snacks were discovered in bushes at Montgomery Street Park at around 8.30 this morning.

Local Eduardo Martinez Caro, 32, shared a worrying photo of the dental sticks which had been packed with pink and white pills.

He shared the snap on Facebook in a bid to warn other dog owners.

Eduardo told the Daily Record: "They were beside the bushes, kind of hiding from us, the dogs play quite a lot in that area.

"They weren’t in a bag, we put them in the bag to bring them to the police.

"The pills doesn’t have any numbers or any marks.

"Seems like they are ibuprofen or paracetamol.

"The police were concerned, but it is hard for them to investigate."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We received a report that a bag containing dog treats with what are believed to be pills contained within was found in Montgomery Park, Edinburgh, at around 8.30am on Tuesday, 2 March.

“Local officers have been made aware of the incident.”

The reports have left local owners concerned.

One person wrote: "How could anyone be so cruel?"

Another added: "This is pure evil."

And one social media user said: "That is some seriously dangerous and sick person or people. Horrific."
