Dog walker threatened with weapon and robbed of watch in Midlothian

A dog walker was grabbed from behind and threatened with a weapon in a terrifying robbery in Midlothian.

Police are appealing for information following the incident in Mayfield, near Dalkeith, on Tuesday evening.

The 34-year-old man was walking his dog in woods near Westhouses Road when the attacker grabbed him from behind and threatened him with a weapon.

A two-figure sum of cash and a watch were stolen before the victim was able to get away uninjured.

The attacker is around 6ft tall and had an older, raspy-soundy local accent. He smelled strongly of alcohol and wore black cotton gloves.

Detective inspector Ben Leathes, from Dalkeith CID, said: “We are asking for anyone who was in this area of Mayfield at the time and saw anything suspicious to come forward, as well as anyone with further information which may help us in our enquiries.”

Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3379 of 17 December. Alternatively, anonymous reports can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
