Dog walker stabbed in Glasgow park murder bid as knife thugs try to steal pet

A man has been left in a serious condition after he was stabbed during a sickening attempt to steal his dog in a park in Maryhill .

The 29-year-old was walking his Cane Corso dog in Dawsholm Park when he was approached by two men at around 7am today, Tuesday.

Both men seriously assaulted the man as they attempted to snatch his pet.

He was then rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after suffering a stab wound in the attack.

Hospital staff have described his condition as serious.

Both men fled the area in the direction of Dawsholm Road immediately afterwards.

Now, Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses to come forward in what is being treated as an attempted murder.

Detective Sergeant Alistair Donaldson of Maryhill Police Station said: “Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the area of the park and are gathering and viewing CCTV footage to establish more men on the two men responsible for this violent attack.

“The dog wasn’t injured and is being looked after by the victim’s family.

“This park is very popular with dog walkers, and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of the park around 7am on Tuesday morning who witnessed this incident take place, or saw these two men acting suspiciously before or after the attack.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland added: “Anyone with information should contact Maryhill Police Station through 101 quoting reference number 0481 of September 24.

“Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
