Dog walker spots headless creature washed up on Wirral beach

A woman made a grim discovery while walking her dog on a Wirral beach.

The mutilated creature, possibly a seal, was washed up on West Kirby beach this morning.

Lisa Smith, who made the discovery, said: “It looked like it had no head and had chunks taken out of it. It was washed up with some wood.”

Charity shop manager Lisa, from Moreton, regularly walks her border collie, Merv, in the area, but said she had never seen anything like this washed up before.

She added: “At first I thought it was a big fish, but it looked more like a seal.

“It could have been caught up in a boat or attacked or something.

“It’s my dog’s favourite walk and I had to bathe him afterwards because he stank of it, but even that didn’t get rid of it completely.”

It has not been confirmed what the creature is.

Back in February a Crosby man took to Twitter to help identify the mysterious remains of a creature he found when running on Crosby Beach.

Mark Leary, 34, a sales manager from Crosby, came across the unusual metre-long remains around 10.00 am, close to the swimming baths on Crosby beach.

Mark said: “I thought it was driftwood from the storms as I’ve seen quite a bit of it whilst out running."

However after the ECHO shared the pictures with Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme it was confirmed the creature was a Harbour Porpoise.
