Dog walker spooked after finding rubbery pile of 'worm-like' creatures on Anglesey beach

A dog walker was left spooked after finding a rubbery pile of strange, worm-like creatures on the beach.

Katie Tootell has walked along the same beach in Anglesey, for 12 years, with her dogs.

After so long, she knows the beach well, and what to expect there, but was left stunned on her walk on Monday 3 April along the beach in Traeth Lligwy, near Moelfre.

At first, she was sure her dogs were just sniffing at a washed up jellyfish.

But upon closer inspection she realised that had come across something quite different.

They had found a rubbery pile of translucent worm-like creatures, each around two inches long.

The unusual worm-like creature came to a length of around 25cm and on close inspection can be seen to include hundreds of tiny dots - thought to be eggs.

After making the unusual discovery, Katie told NorthWalesLive: "I came upon it while walking my dogs on Traeth Lligwy on Monday morning.

"The dogs spotted it first and when they started to sniff it I thought they'd just come across a jellyfish, but when I saw it up close, I didn't have a clue what it was.

"I've been coming to the beach for 12 years and I've never seen anything like it before."

The small white dots inside the capsules are actually squid eggs.

Squid eggs are normally anchored to the seafloor and must have become loose to wash up on the beach.

While not an everyday sight in North Wales, this does happen occasionally and when it does it likely spells the end for the baby squids.
