A man was knocked unconscious while walking his dogs in South Gloucestershire last weekend.
Police say the victim challenged another dog walker over the behaviour of his dogs and was then punched by a man with a dog chain wrapped around his hand.
The victim was left with facial injuries after the incident near Willsbridge on the outskirts of Bristol, not far from Longwell Green, on Saturday (Dec 7) afternoon.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: "We’re appealing for witnesses and information following an assault in South Gloucestershire.
"A man in his 40s was knocked unconscious by another man in a field south of Willsbridge at about 2.30pm on Saturday, 7 December.
"The victim, who suffered facial injuries, had challenged the offender about his dogs who had chased his own dog.
"The offender is believed to have punched the victim with a dog chain wrapped around his hand."
Police say the man believed to have carried out the attack is white and in his late 30s or 40s, between 5ft 10in and 6ft tall, of large build and with greying hair.
He was wearing multiple layers of grey and blue clothing, a gilet with lots of pockets and black wellies.
"The man had three dogs – thought to be two German Shepherds and a Bullmastiff-type dog," the police spokesperson added.
"If you witnessed the incident, or can help identify the offender, please call 101 and provide the call handler with the reference 5219282621."
