Dog walker attacks man with glass bottle in Edinburgh, seriously injuring his face

A man has been left with serious facial injuries following a late-night attack in Edinburgh where he was hit with a glass bottle.

The 58-year-old victim was in Tollcross when the attack took place around 11.50pm on Friday.

He was approached by a man who was walking his dog along Panmure Place, near the junction with Brougham Street.

The man struck the victim to the head with a glass bottle before pinning him to the ground, injuring his face further.

The victim was rushed to hospital with serious facial injuries.

The suspect is described as being white, around 5ft 8in tall, in his 30s, and of stocky build. He was wearing a dark jacket and was walking a small brown terrier-type dog.

Detective constable Oliver Healy, of Gayfield CID, said: "There were a number of people around the area when this incident happened and we are appealing for them to get in touch if they saw what happened.

"As part of our enquiries we are reviewing CCTV footage in the area and would ask anyone with private or business systems to check their footage for the incident.

"We would also appeal to anyone who saw the suspect walking his dog prior to, or after the incident last night, or who can identify him, to come forward and contact officers as soon as possible."

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 4790 of 21st February, or call the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
