Dog units called in amid search for Scots pensioner who vanished a week ago

Search dogs and mountain rescue teams have been drafted into the search operation for a missing Scots pensioner.

The units are currently on their third day of search after William Hogg vanished last week. The 75-year-old was last seen at around 12.45pm on Wednesday, October 5, in the Callander area of Stirlingshire.

Mountain Rescue Teams from Killin and Loch Lomond say the last three days have been dominated by the search for William. Pictures show crews moving into wooded areas in Callander with a search dog in their efforts to locate the pensioner's whereabouts.

A Tweet reads: " The team have been out for a third day for the ongoing search for Falkirk man William Hogg. The search is focused in and around the Callander area.

"The team were assisted by our colleagues from @LomondMRT. Sadly at this point, the gentleman has yet to be located."

William is described as being around 5ft6in tall, of a muscular build, with grey hair and a moustache. He has tattoos on each forearm and wears glasses.

At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a navy-coloured bomber jacket, jeans and black and white trainers. Inspector David Bellingham of Stirling Police Station earlier told how William's family are growing increasingly concerned for him.

He said: “We are concerned for William’s welfare, and I know his family and friends are extremely worried. Officers are focusing their search on the Callander area and reviewing CCTV as part of enquiries, and we would urge anyone with information on his whereabouts to please contact us.

“If you have seen William, please call Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference number 3507 of 5 October 2022.”
