Dog trainer comes up with genius technique to prepare pets for Bonfire Night

A dog trainer has come up with genius technique to prepare your pets for dreaded fireworks displays.

Guy Fawkes Night is  a hard time of the year for pets across the country, but Charles Steward is hoping to make it a little bit more comfortable for them.

A video posted on Bulldog Bob’s K9 Services Facebook shows two bulldogs calmly dozing on the floor as loud fireworks play on the television, reports the Mirror .

Charles’ explains that the male dog had previously been terrified of the bright flashes and loud noises before shrugging them off.

The technique involves YouTube videos of displays, which are played on the television, starting quietly enough that they can 'hear the big bangs but not so it will terrify them' before building up slowly over time.

But it’s sadly a little bit too late for this year’s Bonfire Night, as the technique should be done well in advance of the occasion.

If your dog is suffering tonight, it could be worth trying this technique for next year.

Charles, whose business in Surrey focuses on helping dog breeds that others may choose not to work with, said: "I thought I would use my two as an example for ways of getting around anxiety and fear of fireworks.

"You should be doing this months and months in advance of fireworks night.

"Build up and up and up so if they're outside having a pee when one goes off, it's not going to terrify them.

"This is what people should be doing at home instead of petitioning to ban fireworks - it's never going to happen.

"We should be resolving the problem not moaning about it. I do feel sorry for the dogs that get scared but we should be doing things to prevent it."
