Dog thrown from car had been injured in dog fighting

The appalling cruelty of dog fighting and neglect has been brought into sharp focus following the rescue of a little dog thrown from a car.

Penny, a French bulldog, is covered in wounds from prolonged attacks by at least one other dog and has suffered injuries to her spine and pelvis.

And after being thrown from a vehicle, she is now safe and being looked after by volunteers at a Co Down rescue centre.

A spokesperson for Almost Home, Moira, said: “Meet Penny..what a little sweetheart, I can honestly say she’s made us all cry.

“After all these years, you think you’ve seen it all - then along comes another.

“Penny we believe was thrown from a car, she has bite wounds all up her legs, chest and ears consistent with being involved in a prolonged dog attack.

“She’s extremely thin with very little muscle tone and she’s had pups.

Her legs have been chewed by at least one other dog (Almost Home)

“Her spine and pelvis has been damaged although X-rays show no breaks.

“Time and rest will tell us the rest. So she’s on antibiotics to help heal the physical wounds, with pain relief to help her feel comfortable.

"And we think time, patience and love are needed in bucket loads to help heal the emotional scars.

She is very underweight for her breed (Almost Home)

“Despite her obvious trauma, she’s the most loving, affectionate dog who tries her best to please.

“We have promised Penny that life holds so much more for her - she just needs to wait and see.”
