Dog that was swept away in river found alive a mile and a half away six days later

A dog has been found alive a staggering six-days after he was swept away in a swollen river.

Simon Kitchen, the owner, was doubtful that he would ever see his four-legged friend, Bobby again.

Bobby is an XL Bully Trindle, an extremely rare breed, and is only one of two in the whole country.

He had ran off while out for a walk and ended up in the river, which due to flooding was running fast than usual that day.

Ex-soldier Simon said: "He wasn't near the water, he was walking with me and then bolted down a hill.

"I thought he was playing until he disappeared down that hill.

"I saw the river and I thought the worse as I saw the rocks below."

The Bully was swept away last Sunday but was thankfully spotted six days later on Saturday 9 by farmer Nick Fecitt.

The dog was on a rock in the river when Nick spotted him and was able to reach him.

Simon had spent six days looking for his fury friend but to no avail.

Bobby had travelled a mile and a half through the River Rawthey when he was found.

He went missing near Sedbergh and was found in Dowbiggin, Cumbria. He was reunited with Simon on his 51st birthday, which saved the day.

Simon said today: "I thought it was going to be the worst birthday ever.

"But it was the best one ever."

He added: "When I got the call from the vet I was over the moon" he added.

"I would love to come and see Nick to thank him."

Hero Nick had taken the dog to Farmgate Veterinary Surgery after pulling him from the water, where they were able to notify Simon.

A spokesperson for the vets said: "It's astonishing. Lost dog Bobby, who was swept into the river last Sunday in the floods has just been found alive and well on a rock further down the river at Dowbiggin.

"Huge thanks to Nick Fecitt for finding him and wading into the river to collect him."

"I don't think the owner believes that he's actually alive."

Once they had reunited, the spokesperson added: "So happy to say that Bobby and his owner, Simon have finally been reunited.

"It's Simon's birthday today and I don't think he could've had a better present.

"Si couldn't speak, he was so choked up. He was convinced that the dog was dead."

Graham Burton of Drone SAR Lost Dogs UK said:" Amazing news to hear so so happy to hear Bobby has been found safe.

"Massive well done to Nick on the remarkable rescue you are a hero sir, well done."
