Dog suffers brain damage after being left inside car in scorching 50C heat

A dog has suffered suspected brain damage after being left inside a car in 50C heat in a supermarket car park

Police in Lakeside, Colorado, US found the dog named Pedro in the car after receiving a report of animal cruelty.

Officer Dave Kornowski found the dog panting in the backseat with the window slightly open.

The officer frantically broke a rear window and rescued the poor animal.

He also recorded shocking video of the dog writhing on the car’s floor with its tongue hanging out.

He told TV station FOX31 Denver: “The dog couldn't’t even bark it was panting so heavy.

“The mouth was dry, he was lethargic. He couldn't’t even control himself.

“If you love your animal you wouldn't leave it in the hot car like that."

Officer Kornowski and staff from animal welfare charity Jefferson County Animal Control rushed the dog to Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital.

He is in intensive care unit and is believed to be suffering from neurological issues, according to police.

When the dog’s owner arrived at the scene he complained his window was broken, Mr Kornowski said.

He then drove off before being arrested.
