A dog sparked panic this week after swimming more than a mile in pursuit of a bird off the East Lothian coastline.
Coastguard teams from North Berwick and Fisherrow were called to attend, along with Kinghorn RNLI Lifeboat, after the distressed owner called the emergency services shortly after 3pm on Tuesday afternoon.
When rescue crews arrived they found the owner and police officers trying to encourage the dog, a Pointer called Bella, back to shore.
And thankfully the dog did eventually return safely, happy and to a relieved owner.
North Berwick Coastguard Team shared news of the incident on their social media after returning from the call.
They posted: " East Lothian Police had taken the initial call from the distressed owner and requested Coastguard assistance.
"On scene teams found the owner with police trying to encourage the dog back to shore. Having sighted a bird the dog took on a lengthy swim of around a mile and a half, making full use of her daily walk allowance.
"Thankfully the dog was able to make it ashore prior to the arrival of the lifeboat or teams having to deploy into water.
"We have actually met Bella, a Pointer, a whole back when she undertook another adhoc endurance swim!"
They added: "Bella's very grateful owner did the right thing in calling for help, yes this is the second incident, however, dogs can be unpredictable and we would far rather be there to prevent others from attempting to assist and prevent harm to the animal.
"One happy dog and a very grateful owner!"
Teams say that anyone concerned about something or somebody on the shoreline, cliffs, mud or water should contact 999 immediately and ask for coastguard.
