Dog so matted he could barely walk transformed after vets shave off 6lbs of fur

A rescue Shih Tzu looked unrecognisable after vets shaved off more than 6lbs of matted fur.

The 11-year-old stray, who has since been named Simon, was brought into KC Pet Project in Kansas barely able to walk because of his matted fur that hung from his body and hid his face.

When Simon first arrived at the clinic, he was a dark brown colour and weighed 20lbs.

But now, thanks to the staff at the clinic he is 6lbs lighter and recovering smoothly from the ordeal.

Before and after footage of the transformation was shared on TikTok, where it has amassed more than 30.5 million views.

The woman in the video said: "This 11-year-old Shih Tzu came in today in possibly one of the worst matted cases we have ever seen.

"We can only guess how long it took for him to get into this condition, but one thing we know for sure is that life is about to get so much better for this boy."

It took two members of staff two hours to remove thick matted clumps of fur from his body, which weighed 6lbs.

In a second clip, staff at the vet said he is still at the clinic and is 'relatively healthy' despite the poor condition he was in before.

She added: "Simon has a couple of minor medical concerns, including chronic dry eye.

"He is in desperate need of dental work and because of the matted fur and how long he had it, he overcorrected his stride.

"So he doesn't walk quite right yet, but we hope it will correct itself over time."

Since being posted, the video has racked up more than 6.3 million likes and 91,000 comments from TikTok users who were blown away by Simon's transformation.

Whilst one person said: "I can't imagine the relief he felt," another wrote: "Omg this breaks my heart!!! Ahhh thank you for taking care of him."
