Dog sinks teeth into Jack Russell in sickening park attack

A dog sank its teeth into the neck of a Jack Russell in front of its horrified owner in a sickening attack in Bootle.

Today police released footage of man with a dog believing he could have vital information into the horrific incident as the attacked animal remains in the hands of vets almost two weeks on.

Police said a man was out walking his Jack Russell in Kings Park, Bootle when his dog "was approached by a larger dog that reportedly bit him on the neck."

A spokesman said the dogs were separated, however the other dog and the owner made off from the scene after the attack which happened around 10:10am on Monday, July 1.

And today as part of the probe police released CCTV footage of a man they are keen to trace.

The man, dressed in dark clothing, appears to be engaged in conversation with a woman at a the scene before turning and heading away from a bus stop with his dog on a lead.

The Jack Russell was taken to the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals where he continues to receive veterinary care.

Merseyside Police are appealing for members of the public to come forward if they recognise the man.

Sgt Jenni Bowman said: “We’re keen to speak to any witnesses who may have seen the incident or believes they have information to help us identify the man in the video."

What is the law on dangerous dogs?

She added: "I want to emphasise that anyone walking their dog needs to be mindful of their dogs' behaviour at all times and keep their pet on a lead if it is liable to be aggressive.”

Anyone that recognises the man or has any information about the incident itself should contact @MerPolCC, call 101 or call @CrimestoppersUK anonymously quoting 19100348255.
