Dog's paw sliced open by broken glass after visitors trash park

Police and local community groups are urging the public to clean up their rubbish in a park in North Lanarkshire after a dog was injured by broken glass.

Poor Lubo required treatment to a cut paw after stepping on the glass left after visitors to the park left broken bottles among other damage at Shotts Nature Park in the outskirts of the town near to the old Hartwood Hospital.

Lanarkshire Police shared a photo of Lubo recovering from his injuries with his paw bandaged up as they appealed to park users to clean up their rubbish to avoid such incidents from happening.

The tweet reads: "Police and community groups want to highlight the damage left at Shotts Nature Park, including broken bottles which left poor Lubo with a cut paw.

"If you use the park (or any other park) please clean up your rubbish. This park is for everyone in Shotts - please don’t ruin it!"

Accompanying the tweet are photos illustrating the damage made to the park by the litterbugs, with rubbish left strewn across the ground in the forest area as well as two areas of ground left completely charred by fires - which appear to have been lit using items such as car parts and bits of branches off nearby trees.

We hope Lubo makes a quick recovery!
