Dog run over and killed by professional pet walking van in 'scene from horror movie'

The shocking moment a pet dog 'was cut in half' by a professional dog walking van has been captured in horrific dash cam footage.

The camera, which was installed on pet owner Sian Giles's car, shows the moment eight-year-old Roxi was struck.

The incident was witnessed by Sian and her three-year-old son who were sitting inside their car.

There is no suggestion that the van caused the incident but mum Sian says it drove off afterwards.

The professional dog walking company, Dog Days Walking & Training, bears a slogan on its website 'our philosophy is to treat your dogs as if they are our own'.

Sian reported the matter to West Midlands Police following the tragedy, which happened on Brookside Avenue, Coventry, on Tuesday, April 2.

However, police are not treating the incident as a criminal matter.

Mother-of-two Sian said she had to scoop up the remains of Roxi, her eight-year-old Jug, a cross breed of a Jack Russell and a Pug, from the road.

"It was like the scene of a horror movie," she added.

She said the fact that the van was from a professional dog walking company had made her heartbroken.

She said: "It would have been better if it had been a different company it would not hurt as much.

""But it was a dog walking van and they say all these things about how they care for dogs on their website.

"My youngest little boy, who's only three, was with me in the car at the time, so I had to run over there straight away and put a blanket over her just so he wouldn’t see.

"But he could not but help see what happened. I was so upset, my boy just keeps asking about Roxi.

"He says ‘is Roxi getting better?’ and ‘is Roxi coming back from the vets?’ - but we’d only taken her to the vets to get her cremated.

“She was literally a big member of the family."

The tragedy happened as Roxi dashed out from a front door which was accidentally left open by Sian's father-in-law.

Sian tried to alert the driver by honking.

She reported to West Midlands Police who advised her to contact the dog walking company, but Sian claimed the company have not offered her an apology.

"The woman at the company said she had gone to the police station herself," Sian said.

"I again rang back her back a bit later, I wanted to sort it out between us but she had not intention she said 'I'm not going to deal with you, no I am just going to the police'."

Jackie Gamble, owner of the Coventry-based Dog Days Walking & Training, said: "We have been in touch with the police and they have told us not to comment at this time."
