Dog roamed 60 miles across 8 towns in 7 days before being rescued in Co Down

A dog strayed 60 miles in seven days and was hit by a car on a busy road before finally being brought to safety last night.

The hound-cross is now being looked after by an animal lost and found group in Comber, Co Down.

Now called Myles, his journey is believed to have started near Dundrod, Co Antrim.

And as dog lovers put out word to each other on social media to keep an eye out for the poor pooch, he was tracked over seven days.

And his journey took him through eight towns, Dundrod, Lisburn, Hillsborough, Dromara, Ballynahinch, Saintfield, and Carryduff before finally being stopped in Comber.

Volunteers at Lost Paws NI Co Antrim alerted the country to his plight last week and now he is being cared for by a volunteer from Lost and Found North Down and Ards.

A spokesperson said: “We have a lot of thank you messages for people that helped us track and catch this lovely hound.

Lost Paws NI had been tracking him daily until he came into our radar on Wednesday and so many people on Facebook were watching out for him and reporting sightings over about a 60 mile trek.

“And finally on Wednesday night a gentleman called Keith who was walking his own dog, managed to get hold of the collar of this hound in Comber.

“The hound was taken straight to our friends at Comber/Ards Vet clinic. He was reported to have been hit by a car but thankfully he has suffered no broken bones. He’s underweight and was dehydrated when he finally came to a standstill. So he just needs rest, a little food and water .

“He’s not chipped and we have seen no one looking for him so he will be spending some time resting with an other rescue and recovering before any future decisions are made.”
