Puppy rescued from death row after ending up with expensive vet bill and no insurance

A puppy has been saved from death row after his previous owners faced a tough decision when they were unable to afford his medical costs.

French Bulldog Taz was taken to the vets last week and unfortunately his prospects were not looking good as he was very sick, not insured and due to be put to sleep.

But it was the 11-month-old's lucky day.

Seeing a future for the Frenchie, the vet suggested finding a place in a rescue centre instead of putting him to sleep.

The owners agreed and Taz is now with Cardiff Dogs Home in Llandough.

However, Taz’s problems have not completely gone away being rescued as he had four seizures during his first night and early morning at the centre.

He was admitted to the emergency vet over the weekend for specialist care where he had more seizures and several tests.

The vets put Taz on anti-seizure medication which is working for now but makes the puppy sleepy.

The weekend alone cost the rescue centre £1,500 and more tests still need to be done.

But as of now, Taz is stable and improving and back at the rescue centre receiving round the clock care.

Cardiff Dogs Home are determined to give him another lease of life and posted a fundraiser to help raise money towards his care and are already overwhelmed with the response so far, raising £2,229.

In an update on Cardiff Dogs Home’s Facebook page on behalf of Taz said: “I really can’t believe how many of you have donated towards my treatment.

“It has brought tears to my eyes just knowing how many of you care about me.

“Thank you to all my supporters I love you so much and I wouldn’t be here without you.”

Supporters rushed to the comments, with one saying: “So pleased for Taz, I’ve been thinking of him all weekend. Thank you so much CDH.”

Another said: “Keep fighting beautiful boy.”

One more said: “He is already looking way brighter. What a gorgeous little pupper.”

Cardiff Dogs Home has previously spoken about the influx of French Bulldogs it has rescued this year, as breeding of the dogs is rife in south Wales.

They are often the most popular breed in the hotel but suffer from allergies, breathing problems, ear problems, skin problems and more.
