Dog rescued from basement after neighbours threatened to poison her

A dog who was rescued from a basement after neighbours threatened to poison her is looking for a new home.

Suki was brought to the UK from Bosnia last year and now in the care of a kennel-free rescue centre based in Salford, Dogs4Rescue.

Despite the fact that she was a bull breed and was overlooked for a while, the rescue home was hopeful she'd find a home in no time given that she seemed to love everyone, including other dogs and cats.

The only potential issue at the time was her ability to jump 6ft fences.

But sadly, after a couple of failed attempts at rehoming her, Suki is now back with Dogs4Rescue and looking for a new home.

Founder Emma Billington told TeamDogs : “Being a bull breed she wasn’t chosen for a while. In a couple of fosters she showed some separation issues and started becoming wary of those she didn’t live with.

“She then went out on trial where we thought things were OK but she returned months later described as aggressive to visitors and men in work trousers.

“She was highly anxious and no longer accepted some of our staff whom she had previously been fine with.”

Suki then went out on another trial but that wasn’t to be either.

Emma added: “We got her a wonderful trial with people she accepted immediately and all was well until they went on a camping holiday with friends and she couldn’t relax and became very defensive.

“Sadly she was returned and although we have tried her with foster homes since she doesn’t trust most strangers and people are wary of her.”

The team at the centre have continued to work with Suki and they’re now trying to rehome her once again as she has showed some improvement.

The two-year-old is looking for an experienced, adult-only home with owners who are patient and don’t get a lot of visitors.

Emma said: “She bonds with her people and has so many wonderful characteristics but at the moment is proving near impossible to home.

“She is house clean, usually a non chewer unless she gets stressed.

“She ignores people and bikes etc on walks, is fit and well and so loving, cuddly and playful when she feels safe with someone.

“She’s just missing that special thing she so desperately needs – a home of her own.

“We love her so much and want her to be happy.”

Although Suki is good with most dogs, she does guard her things so she will need to be the only pet in the home.

If you think you could give Suki the home she needs, contact Dogs4Rescue by emailing info@dogs4rescue.co.uk or calling 07412361769.
