Dog rescued by Coastguard after falling over cliff in Co Antrim

Coastguard teams were tasked with rescuing a dog who had fallen over a cliff in Co Antrim this weekend.

Portmuck and Larne Coastguard cliff rescue teams came to the dog's rescue after it went over the cliff at the Blackhead Path near Whitehead on Sunday, December 5.

They said after a "very difficult set-up" due to the narrow cliff path location, "a happy wee dog" was returned to its owner unharmed.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Portmuck Coastguard said: "Portmuck and Larne Coastguard cliff rescue teams were tasked today (December 5) after receiving reports that a dog had went over the cliff at Blackhead.

It's advisable to keep dogs on a lead on the narrow path (Portmuck Coastguard/Facebook)

"After a very difficult set-up due to the location down a narrow cliff path a happy wee dog was successfully rescued and returned to its owner unharmed.

"As this path is narrow with steep drops it is advisable to keep dogs on a lead."

Those commenting on the post were more than happy to hear the good news.

"Well done team! Great to know you guys are out there," one commenter said.

While another added: "Well done! So glad dog was safe!"
