Dog rescued after falling from cliff at beauty spot

A dog was rescued after falling from a cliff. A mountain rescue team was sent to the aid of Eddie the cocker spaniel.

It followed reports that a dog was stranded on steep ground. A walker said the pooch had fallen over North Yorkshire beauty spot Whitestone Cliff on Tuesday afternoon.

A warden at the National Park managed to get down to the bottom of the crags and located Eddie. They were then helped by volunteers from Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team to carry him to safety.

A Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team spokesperson said: "The team member made his way down to meet up with the warden and together they carried Eddie back to the top and from there they all continued back to the visitor centre taking turns to carry Eddie. Once at the visitor centre Eddie was able to stand.

"A number of other team members had arrived so one of them drove (his owner) Rowena’s walking companion back to collect her car. They were then able to travel home and to get Eddie checked over by a vet."
