Dog poisoned in popular Dublin park leaves pet owners concerned

Pet owners in Dublin have been warned after a dog with "severely swollen" legs was rushed to a vet following a visit to a northside park.

A local said they were out for a walk with their dog in St Anne's Park over the weekend when it ran off while chasing after a squirrel.

When she returned, the owner noticed she was limping and by the time they got home her front legs looked painfully swollen.

The poor pooch was taken to the vet who ran tests and said she may have eaten rat poison or something similar.

Speaking on a local Facebook group, the pet owner issued a stark warning to people walking their dogs in a particular area of St Anne's Park.

They said on Enjoying St Anne's Park: "We just got back from the vet with our dog, with whom we have been in the park today.

"It was entirely our fault, but she ran off a bit, chasing after a squirrel (trust me, when I say I learned my lesson not to let her run loose again), but when she came back she was limping. We thought she had hurt her leg, but by the time we got home, both front legs were severely swollen.

"The vet did run some tests and believes she must have eaten some rat poison or something similar.

"She is on meds and besides feeling very sorry for herself, she will be alright. But she is a strong and healthy dog. This could have been much worse for a smaller or frail dog.

"I have added a screenshot of the area, where this happened, so please be mindful when you walk your dog."
