Dog 'poisoned' at Glasgow golf course left unable to walk and hallucinating

A two-year-old cocker spaniel was left unable to stand and hallucinating after being poisoned while out on a walk at a Glasgow golf course.

Dog owners have been urged to take extra care in the area after Poppy ingested an unknown substance while at Littlehill Golf Course on Auchinairn Road on Sunday afternoon.

Owners Rachael and Stephen found her in their bed after she was sick when they returned home. By then she had lost all ability to walk or even sit up on her own and was twitching.

She was rushed to the emergency vets where the couple were told their beloved pup had ingested a 'really high dose' of something that had poisoned her during the walk.

The vet said that Poppy was hallucinating, sensitive to light and touch and was scared of people walking past her and was kept in overnight for regular check-ups.

The effects of the poison have remained in the pup's system until Monday morning, leaving her still unable to walk and hallucinating.

Owner Rachael said she is still refusing to eat or drink and has had to be sedated to help her tremors calm down.

She said: "I'm honestly absolutely heartbroken, she’s going to pull through but the thought of her going through it all herself is heartbreaking."

Poppy's dog walker Scott urged others to take care, adding: "Please be very careful if walking in his area, we hope Our Little Poppy pulls through this.

"Absolutely heartbreaking."
