Dog owners warned after sausages laced with fish hooks found in Glasgow street

Dog owners have been warned to be on the look out for sausages spiked with fish hooks being left by a thug in the west end of Glasgow.

Concerned local Dawn Mcintosh posted a picture of two links sausages with sharp skewers tied to them with string after her son spotted them in Cowdenhill Street, Knightswood.

The boy reportedly saw a man throwing the object on the ground on Wednesday morning.

Dawn took to Facebook to warn others in the area to look out for their pets.

She wrote: "Cowdenhill Road, Knightswood this morning.

"My son spotted a guy throwing something, went to investigate.

"Please warn all animal owners!! The police have been notified."

It is the latest incident of this kind to take place in Glasgow in recent times, with the Scottish SPCA launching a major investigation into dog biscuits laced with pins found at the end of June.

The grim discovery was made in the Anderston area of the city.

It is the seventh time dangerous treats have been dumped in the city centre area since March 2018.

Scottish SPCA Inspector Kerry Friel said: “We are thankful that no animal has been harmed and we are grateful to the vigilant members of the community who have continuously alerted us to these incidents.

“This is the seventh report we have received of dog biscuits with harmful materials in. Previously biscuits have been found embedded with nails and needles."

Inspector Friel added: “We would ask everyone in the area to be alert, especially those who walk their dogs in the area. To keep pets safe, we would urge people to keep their dogs on a lead.

“There is no doubt that this is a calculated act to deliberately harm an animal. This is an offence punishable by law. We are working closely with Police Scotland to find the person responsible."
