Dog owners warned after claims of 'poison left on pet food' in Salford park

Dog walkers have been advised to keep a eye on their pets during walks after claims of poisonous dog food found at a Salford Park.

Claims of dog food laced with rat poison found in Winton Park, Eccles were made on social media on Bank Holiday Monday.

Salford City Council say they are ware of the rumours and have advised residents to keep a close eye on their pets when walking through the park.

The council also say that no animal has been harmed and the neighbourhood police team have been made aware of the claims.

Several posts were made on Facebook warning residents about the alleged poison found on the park.

One post on shared on Bank Holiday Monday read: “There have been reports of rat poison on dog food in bushes at Winton Park – please be very careful and keep your dog on lead if you are walking in this area.”

Another post said:“I’ve just been told that someone has put poisoned dog food in Winton Park. Could a local councillor inform appropriate personal please.”

While another read: “WINTON PARK. DOG FOOD SCATTERED LACED WITH POISON PELLETS.

“NOT ONLY DANGER TO DOGS BUT ALL THE WILDLIFE ON THERE!

“BE AWARE.”

A spokesman for Salford City Council said: “We are aware of rumours circulating over he weekend and have made the neighbourhood police team aware.

"Thankfully we have not heard of any dogs being harmed but would always suggest dog owners keep an eye on their pets when walking them.”
