A new app has launched in the city for dog lovers who can’t care for a dog full time.
Borrow My Doggy connects Liverpool dog owners with dog lovers who don’t own a pet of their own. People can then ‘borrow’ a dog for walks, spend time playing with them or have them for overnight stays.
The app, which launched in 2012, has more than 270 city dog owners looking to find their furry friend a borrower to help take care of them.

Joanne Hill, an owner on the app, said: “I use the app as I want to socialise Mikka and get her used to different people. We have no family in Liverpool so we wanted to expand her human interactions, and we have met some lovely people. It’s also getting some additional help and support for when we are at work.”
Potential borrowers signing up to the app are asked to outline their experience with dogs, tell owners a little about themselves, and include a picture. In turn, owners write a profile about themselves and their pet and why they want to use the app. The app then connects them to local dog owners.
You can download the app here. While it's free to download, there is a charge to get in touch with local members, with a premium membership for borrowers costing £12.99 per year.
