Dog owner discovers how hard it is to groom pets in lockdown after cutting Pomeranian's hair too short

One dog owner has found out the hard way that giving her Pomeranian a haircut at home during the coronavirus lockdown isn't an easy job.

With pet grooming services deemed non-essential and closed down to curb the spread of Covid-19, pet owners have been forced to take matters into their own hands.

Business owner Hermione uploaded photos of her pet dog Mash, revealing his at-home makeover didn't really go according to plan.

"Take it from Mash and wait until the professionals are back," she wrote on Instagram.

Hermione has shown us what happens if you look at your pet's thick hair which needs a trim and think, 'it can't be that hard'.

In the first picture, 13-year-old Mash has a thick, golden coat, and in the next, appears much thinner after taking off more hair that she had hoped.

Hermione, who splits her time between Sydney and London, said she and her beloved Mash Facetime when they are apart.

"He's actually so cute," she said.

But Hermione isn't the only one struggling to put her creative skills to work in the lockdown.

A New Zealand comic who set out to celebrate her "hero" prime minister in the form of a cake had to send her apologies to Jacinda Ardern after it went horribly wrong.

Laura's tribute to her

The cake, made during Hilary Barry’s television show Seven Sharp, was based on a picture of the prime minister on the cover of a recent biography, An Extraordinary Leader.

But the masterpiece turned into a bizarre cake with black liquorice hair, googly blue eyes and an extremely lifelike set of teeth.

Laura Daniel told the Evening Standard: "I genuinely went into it thinking I was going to do a good job."

After seeing the final result, she said: "I was pretty disappointed it didn't match the vision I had in my head.

"And then I couldn't stop laughing."
