A missing dog has been reunited with his owner after vanishing for two days - when he got stuck beneath her reclining chair the whole time.
The anxious 93-year-old called the police after her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Toby, disappeared.
Officers were concerned about the woman’s well-being so visited her address in Matlock, Derbyshire, to see if she needed any support.
While PC Tammy Wood, of Derbyshire Constabulary, was there talking to the woman about the missing dog, she helped reach an item that had fallen on the floor.
As she knelt down, she noticed a chestnut and white pooch staring back at her while lying quietly underneath the woman’s recliner.
PC Wood carefully freed Toby from underneath the chair and he appeared to be well – just hungry and thirsty.
The police force shared an adorable picture taken from PC Wood's bodycam showing Toby following her into the kitchen for a drink and some food.
PC Wood, from the police’s local Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Both Toby and his owner appeared to be over the moon to be reunited, and it was clearly a huge relief for the woman.
"Her family, friends, and neighbours had all been out looking for Toby, but she was becoming ever more distressed as time went on believing he had managed to get out, and fearing the worst.
“Our pets are companions and become members of the family. I’m just very pleased that we were able to put the woman’s mind at rest and make sure her dog was safe.”
PC Wood made sure Toby was fed and watered before leaving the home and checked to see if the woman and her family needed any further support.
