A devastated dog owner has revealed the horrific injuries his pet suffered in a mauling by another dog.
Chris Winter was walking Shane, a Staffy Cross, when the terrifying attack happened in Gateshead.
Shane was on a lead when the dog came out of the back garden of a property and latched onto his neck.
The pet suffered painful puncture wounds to his neck, shoulder and back left leg, and needed stitches, Chronicle Live reports.
Chris, 34, has reported the attack to police, who are investigating.
He said: "I was just walking down the street with my dog on a lead.

"Then this other dog came out of a back garden and latched onto him.
"He bit Shane on his neck and he had puncture wounds on his shoulder and hind quarter.
"I'm not sure what breed this other dog was. But Shane was terrified."
He said a man, who he believes was related to the owner of the other dog, tried to get the animal off Shane. But his pet was left bleeding.
Chris, who is on a low income and suffers from anxiety and depression, says it would have cost more than £500 to get Shane treated for his injuries and he would not have been able to afford the vet bills.
But the charity Street Paws stepped in to help and Shane was provided the treatment he needed at a veterinary practice in Fenham, Newcastle.
Chris added: "Shane is one of the softest, most loving dogs I've come across. I've had him for more than a year.

"What happened to him was quite alarming.
"If it wasn't for Street Paws, I would not have been able to pay the vet fees.
"Shane needed several stitches, about six to 10 on his shoulder. He is fine now."
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “We can confirm we received a report that a dog had been attacked by another dog in the Saltwell Place area of Gateshead on the evening of November 2.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish if any criminal offences have been committed.”
