Dog left 'covered in blood' with part of paw hanging off after stepping on glass at Scots beach

A distraught Scots dog walker has told how her beloved pet was left 'covered in blood' with part of his paw hanging off after standing on glass on a litter-strewn beach.

Graphic pictures show the damage done to Springer Spaniel Ozzi's leg after taking a walk at Erskine beach in Renfrewshire last night.

Owner Cara Binnie, from Bishopton, said it was only a king-hearted fellow dog walker that rushed to Ozzi's aid and provided bandages.

She said: "We were just out for the daily walk and Ozzi went over to a grass bit with about four other dogs.

"Me and the owner were having a talk and then I looked over all of a sudden and just saw Ozzi covered in blood.

"It was all over his stomach and back legs. I couldn't believe how much blood could come out of one small dog.

"Luckily the lady had a dog first-aid kit and we got a bandage on.

"He is absolutely fearless. It wasn't until we were in the car on the way to the vet that he started to wine and cry.

"I took him to the vet and he said that he had stood on glass and that it was in the paw and leg.

"The bit that is like thumb was hanging on."

Vets gave Ozzi stitches but Cara said her pup is still 'subdued' and not his usual boisterous self after the incident.

The 24-year-old, who works for a technology firm, has issued a strong warning to people dropping bottles on the beach.

She said: "The beach is a bit of a joke.

"If you go down drinking there then the least you can do is take your stuff with you.

"It was a dog this time but next time it could be a child.

"Ozzie is going to be fine but I'd just ask people to think how it could be a lot worse."

Locals have continually hit out at youths littering at the beauty spot- which is a popular teenage drinking spot.

In June, residents even formed a litter picking group to tackle the blight.
