Dog killed and 70-year-old man rushed to hospital after being struck down by car

A dog was struck down and killed in Fife last night after a car hit the animal and its owner.

On Thursday evening, the 70-year-old man and his dog were out walking when they were run over by the vehicle near Lochgelly.

At around 7.50pm, the pair were helped by passers-by on the B981 whilst they waited for the emergency services.

However, the dog was tragically pronounced dead after suffering serious injuries.

After the emergency services arrived the elderly man was rushed to hospital, however the extent of his injuries are unknown at this time, reports the Daily Record.

Locals took to Facebook to express their concerns after hearing of the accident.

One woman said: "So sad. Hope the man makes a full recovery. The poor dog."

Another added: "So, so sad. Fly high furbaby.

"Hope the gentleman makes a full recovery. "

One other said: "Poor dog. Wishing the man involved a speedy recovery. Hope the driver is OK too."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports of an accident on the B981 near Lochgelly around 7.50pm last night.

“A 70-year-old man and his dog were hit by a car and sadly the dog passed away.

“Enquiries into the incident are continuing.”
