Dog is seized and woman reported to Procurator Fiscal over alleged attack on granddad

A 40-year-old woman has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal following an incident where a pensioner was allegedly attacked by a dog.

The 72-year-old had been walking his own pet in Blackburn on Friday when he spotted two other large dogs and lifted his own - called Domino - up into his arms to keep him safe.

But he was then knocked to the ground and allegedly attacked after they broke free from their owner.

His thumb was bitten off, he suffered numerous bite injuries on his face, neck, body and hands during the savage attack and was rushed to St John’s Hospital in Livingston.

His son, David Jones, recovered his dad’s severed thumb from the grass but it could not be saved.

He was discharged from hospital on Sunday night and David said he has been left “traumatised” by the horror attack. Fortunately Domino survived after being bitten on the legs but is expected to make a full recovery.

He told the Courier: “Dad is pretty traumatised, he’s in a lot of pain.

“He’s had stitches to his face where the dog bit him and he’s lost his thumb and has other bites on his arms and his hands and legs.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said a dog has also been seized as part of enquiries, adding: “A 40 year-old woman is subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal following a dog on dog attack near Happy Valley Road in Blackburn around 11am on Friday, 16 July.”

A West Lothian Council spokesperson added: “Council officers are providing assistance to Police Scotland, following an incident involving dogs in Blackburn on Friday, July 16.”
