Dog gets himself lost - but then reports himself missing at local police station

Everyone knows when you're lost the best person to help is a police officer.

So, when dog Chico lost his human, there was only one place he knew he should go - his local police station.

Officers were stunned when the woofer calmly walked into the Texas police station and placed his hands on the counter to report himself missing.

Sgt Rusty Martin was one of the first officers to meet adorable Chico - and was more than happy to help.

He explained: "He didn’t seem distressed about his lost status at all.

"It was as if he just went out for a stroll through the neighborhood and decided to pay the kind officers a visit to brighten up their day."

Lassie clearly has nothing on this doggo, who had to good sense to go to the one place where he was sure to be reunited with his worried owners.

Sgt Martin confirmed Chico received "lots of love and attention" while officers looked into his missing persons case.

He added: "We had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved him."

But there was a problem, Chico's name tag had fallen off his collar.

Animal control were dispatched so they could check him for a microchip - but before they arrived Chico had crept out of the police station unnoticed.

Thankfully, it seems the very clever boy had remembered where he lived and managed to make his way back home.

Sgt Martin said: "The owner responded the next day [to say that] it was his dog and he had returned home. He lives about a mile from the station."

And Chico's amazing actions at reporting himself missing have won praise from around the world.

Many people have even said the dog should be recruited into the police force.

Susan Ryan said: "I think Chico was definitely applying for a job. Look how sharp he's looking. Very impressive."

Meanwhile Celia Nutt added: "OMG! How cute is this. I'm sure the officers loved this. What a handsome applicant... I'll hire him."
