Dog found wandering streets bleeding with more than 30 puncture wounds

A bleeding dog which had more than 30 puncture wounds was found wandering the streets of Rhondda.

WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGES

Images were uploaded to social media on Wednesday afternoon (March 20) of the injured dog, which was found in Penygraig. The picture left many people questioning what had happened to the shar pei.

However, Hope rescue centre in Llanharan later posted to say it believed the dog had escaped and got in to a fight with another dog.

She had suffered a number of injuries on her leg, neck and her blood pressure was low from the blood loss.

The recuse centre said it had been in touch with the owners of the dog, but they had handed it over to them because they "couldn't afford to pay for the vet bills".

Vanessa Waddon, manager at the charity said: "We managed to trace the owners of the shar pei girl found in Penygraig.

"It seems she escaped and got into a scrap with another dog. She has been signed over to us and we have named her Sian. The poor girl was in shock with over 30 puncture wounds, lacerations and a nasty degloving injury on her leg and neck. Her blood pressure was low from the blood loss.

"Sian has been in emergency surgery getting sutured by our fantastic vets. She's got a drain in to help with fluid build-up and will stay in overnight.  She's in a bad way.

"There is a chance her wounds may break down but fingers crossed they stay sound. She also has entropion in both eyes that will require surgery, as well as bad ears so will be with us for some time whilst we get her health issues sorted," she said.

Missing dog spent six days shivering on ledge of 200ft sheer cliff before owner heard a 'whimpering'

The injuries to the dog and the fact the owners have given it up mean the charity will now have to fund the medical costs.

She added: "The owners didn't have the funds to pay for the fees, the cost is going to be significant for us as we are only a small charity. It's going to cost well over £3,000.

"We can't quite believe how many emergency cases we are seeing at the moment. It's really hitting us hard. If anyone is able to donate a little something towards our vets bills so we can continue to help dogs like Sian, we would be so grateful."
