Dog found covered in tar and left to die now unrecognisable after being rescued

A dog who was found covered in tar and painfully stuck to the pavement has undergone a heartwarming transformation thanks to the kindness of her rescuers.

Little Champi was discovered with half of her body covered in coal tar and debris as she limped in pain and struggled to walk in Solapur, India.

The thick mixture left her struggling to get up from the floor where she was camouflaged by leaves stuck to her coat and had been left to die.

Thankfully she was found by local rescue team Animal Rahat, who sedated her before taking her off the street for treatment.

Volunteers spent four days carrying out the painstaking process of carefully rubbing off the tar using vegetable oil and removing dirt from her coat.

Champi then underwent a lengthy recovery allowing time for her damaged skin underneath to heal before a new coat of fur grew - and she's unrecognisable now.

The animal group, which is supported by PETA, shared a video showing the journey from the heartbreaking moment Champi was discovered on the streets to her happy recovery, as reported by the Daily Star.

Champi is now back to full health and the clip shows the happy dog running through a field wagging her tail in excitement.

She's now been adopted by one of her rescuers and given a new home where she can spend her days playing with other dogs and farm animals.

The video states: "Despite the ordeal, her sweet and playful personality began to shine through, and when she was finally tar-free, one of her rescuers made her part of his family.

"Now her fur has grown back and she spends her days running in the fields at her new home and playing with her animal friends, including some rescued chickens.

"Nothing can hold her back from living her best life."
