Dog falls off cliff and dies after being spooked by walkers on 'dangerous' Scottish path

A pet dog died after falling off a cliff when it was spooked by a walkers.

The small Staffie panicked when it encountered the group with a number of dogs off their leads on the cliff top path at Dunbar prom, in East Lothian.

The animal was so badly injured it had to be put down.

Dunbar Community Council issued an appeal to dog owners following the heartbreaking incident between Christmas and New Year.

It comes a year after a similar incident involving a spaniel.

A Facebook post explained: "A local man walking his dog on the Dunbar Prom encountered a group of people (maybe visitors) coming the opposite way with a number of dogs off-lead.

"The man's dog panicked and ended up going over the cliff edge.

"Dog walkers should consider keeping their dogs on leash when walking their dogs on this beautiful but potentially dangerous path, and give other dogs as wide a berth as possible."
